Wow, what a day today has been. Started pretty early when Isabel woke & wouldn't calm back down. At 4:30 I gave up, got us both out of bed & headed to the rocker recliner. We watched crappy early morning tv and finally around 6 a.m. headed back to bed for a nap before the boys forced us out of the bed for the day. Mr. T took care of changing them while I was nursing Isa (again), so I was completely unaware of the diaper situation. Apparently after our trip to Springfield over the weekend, we were running low. Somehow I managed not to change a single toddler diaper yesterday, so I was completely unaware we were on our last package. It's not a good place to be with twins in the house. If you've ever read Mr. T's blog, you understand how prolific they are in certain areas & how this could be a problem.
Around 9 a.m. I discover we have not a SINGLE Pull-Up in the house. I checked all the stashes, made an angry phone call to Mr. T. and started to dress the children to leave. After a few meltdowns of boys thinking they will be left behind at home & miss yet another ride in the new mini-van (sorry, forgot to post about that), we make it up the stairs where we encounter my sister-in-law & neices. We agree to exchange Isa, who got to hang out with NeNe (Mr. T's mom, aka grandma) for the girls. (Only 7 passengers in the van, do the math).
Now I'm off to the garage where I discover some Johnson has left in a car without removing the girls' booster seats & leaving them in the garage for us. In our house Johnson is the term used for males who act especially thoughtless, selfish or masculine - great example of this behavior here. Luckily I spy an old car seat (designed for airline travel mostly) on a shelf and pull it down for one of the twins. The 3 year olds & the twins were forced into 5 point harness seats, which the 3 year olds really hate. Finally at almost 10 a.m. we make it around the corner to the store & secure a big box of Pull-Ups. The entire exercise felt like a fire drill as I kept waiting for a foul smell to enter the air to indicate one of the twins had filled a diaper and time had expired. It shall be known now as the "Diaper Drill".
To soothe myself, we ran through the drive through at McDonalds to grab some lunch, praying we are just past the 10:30 a.m. start of lunch service. With 6 kids (5 that eat solid food) and 3 adults, of course we have a big enough order that we have to pull up & wait for them to bring our food out. We made it home, through lunch, naptime, the afternoon, and dinner pretty peacefully.
After bedtime Isabel kicked in with more screaming that requiring rocking. After finally settling her, I ran upstairs to prepare things for tomorrow's breakfast. A necessity since Isa's still nursing on a completely unpredicatable schedule & the boys sometimes wake up ravenous. While I'm in the kitchen, Ian & Michael, who I had perceived as being asleep when I just checked on them, are both awake. Somehow Michael got out of bed, stripped from the waist down & peed in the doorway of his bedroom before going into the living room & watching commercials on the tv I had left on as a decoy. Why on earth did I waste my time this morning on the Pull-Up run just to have him take it off & pee on the floor???? This kid has NEVER done this before! ARGH! And Ian is there to make sure everyone knows the details of it all in true 3 year old tattle-tale fashion. All the commotion woke Isa up again as well.
Luckily some thoughtful soul in the house had secured me a Triple Chocolate Milkshake from Oberweis that I was finally able to enjoy & shake the day off, as I sat rocking Isa for what seemed to be the millionth time today.
Here I sit at 11 p.m. waiting for Mr. T to come home from work. I knew this morning it'd be a long day, as he's a computer guy & certain projects have to be done after hours, it's become rather common, but a midnight day is pretty rare.
So there you have it... for all those who wonder what it's like to have 4 children so close in age, there's a snapshot. Most days aren't like this, but they do happen. They happen more than I'd like, but I've always survived them. *wink* And at least tomorrow the FedEx man will arrive with 2 new scrapping books for me & a TMBG cd for the kids. Okay, not totally for the kids, but we decided on the weekend road trip some appropriate but not annoying kid music was in order. And maybe, just maybe, I might get to sleep in a bit tomorrow since Mr. T worked so late tonight!
